As Ohio’s 66th Lt. Governor, Jon Husted continues to be a strong, reliable, commonsense voice within the Republican Party. With a focus on economic and workforce development, he has championed the administration’s efforts to strengthen the economy, use technology to transform the way government operates, and build opportunity for every Ohioan.

Conservative Leadership

Prior to his election as Lt. Governor, he served eight years as Ohio’s Secretary of State where it was his mission to make it “easy to vote and hard to cheat” while making Ohio the easiest and least costly state in the Midwest to start a business. As Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, he led the reform of the Ohio tax code that included the largest income tax cut in Ohio history, and led the passage of what was hailed as the most conservative budget in more than 40 years.

A Champion for Education

Husted has always been a champion of educational opportunities for Ohio’s children as the creator of the EdChoice Scholarship that allows children to have access to schools that best fit their needs. He also created the Choose Ohio First Scholarship, which provides Ohio High School graduates who major in STEM disciplines a financial incentive to attend and graduate from Ohio colleges and universities. 

Family First

Jon’s life started in a foster home before he was adopted by his loving parents, Jim and Judy. He is the oldest of three children and was raised in Northwest Ohio’s Williams County. The small community instilled in him the importance of faith, family, and hard work that serve as the foundation of his public service. He graduated from Montpelier High School and earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Dayton (UD).

While at UD, Jon was an All-American Defensive Back on the University of Dayton’s 1989 Division III National Championship Football Team. Of all his responsibilities, Jon considers his most important role as that of a loving husband to his wife Tina, and father to Alex, Katie and Kylie.

As Lt. Governor, Jon Husted has been a champion of career, technical and vocational education and training to help tens of thousands more Ohioans a year prepare for quality, higher-paying jobs without the burden of college debt.

Developing a Strong, Skilled Workforce

Through programs like TechCred, Ohio’s premier upskilling program, businesses can connect their employees with training that will make their company more competitive. The program serves as a promise kept by the administration to fund over 10,000 technology-focused credentials in one year, a number that continues to increase.

Innovating State Government to Better Serve Ohioans

Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted committed to using technology to deliver better services that save Ohioans time and money, while promoting a healthy economy and a more streamlined, efficient state government. They founded InnovateOhio, which seeks to make Ohio the most innovative, creative, and entrepreneurial state in the Midwest.

Innovating State Government to Better Serve Ohioans

Lt. Governor Husted serves as the founding director of InnovateOhio, which has delivered on those promises for Ohio citizens. Through the new Ohio BMV website, Ohioans can now complete more services online without ever stepping foot in a government office, and the new Get In Line, Online tool gives you the chance to virtually stand in line at the BMV without even leaving your home, significantly reducing the time you have to spend in the office.

InnovateOhio also launched a brand new OhioMeansJobs.com, fulfilling the DeWine-Husted commitment to develop simple tools to pair job seekers with growing Ohio businesses.

A History of Collaborative Leadership

Throughout his time in elected office, Jon has demonstrated repeatedly his ability to lead on projects that have a positive impact on Ohio citizens.

As Secretary of State, he made it his mission to make Ohio the best state in the Midwest to do business by improving customer services and reducing wait times for entrepreneurs. Under his leadership, the state moved beyond week-long processing of paper forms and made it possible for businesses to interact with the state over the internet with the click of a button. He has also reduced the cost for starting a business in Ohio by 21 percent — making Ohio the least costly state in the Midwest to start and maintain a new business.

A History of Collaborative Leadership

In 2017, Husted announced the efficiencies in his office had not only allowed him to cut the fees the state charged on Ohio entrepreneurs, but also eliminated the need for taxpayer funding for the government office entirely for the remainder of his term – a move that has saved taxpayers millions of dollars. 

Husted also serves as Finance Chair for the Republican Lieutenant Governors Association (RLGA), an organization dedicated to electing Republican lieutenant governors across the country.
